I have huge blisters on the ball of my feet from playing tennis... a huge blister forms and may even pop while playing. A new blister just forms over the old blister and it is painful. I have to find a way to play tennis....suggestions?

Thank you for contacting IPFH. We do not provide diagnoses or medical advice on line. If you check our page on blisters you will note that there are a number of factors to consider in preventing blisters from occurring. Tennis is a game that demands much of the feet, and the typical foot motions put stress on the forefeet, and especially the balls of the feet. The most important consideration in preventing blisters is selecting and getting fitted in the proper footwear and sockwear. Read more about this in our article entitled “Integrated Approach to Selecting Padded Socks and Shoes that Fit." Recommendations in this article include activity specific padded socks, properly fitted with your tennis footwear. These help protect the feet and move moisture away from them (blistering is often worsened by the presence of moisture on your feet). A proper fit is very important to preventing blisters; and the area in which they are occurring suggests to us that you may not have a proper shoe fit (blisters on the ball of the foot are often the result of the foot moving laterally or forward and backward in a shoe that is too large). We suggest that you follow the procedures outlined in the Integrated Approach article, and visit a footwear store or a pro shop where you can get a professional fit. If this does not help prevent your blisters, we suggest that you consult a foot health professional who can help determine why you are getting the blisters, and recommend steps you can take to resolve the situation. Thanks again for getting in touch, and we hope you will soon be playing blister-free tennis.
