I have already pain in both feet for a while - top pads - it's awful for a few weeks now. But now I noticed my third toe turning against second toe leaving a space by fourth toe. I'm young and it looks weird - no pain. But I feel it. Feels weird. Why is this? I do work in a nursing home full-time, and I'm always running and putting pressure on my feet. Help!

Thank you for contacting us. IPFH does not diagnose or provide treatment recommendations on line. Since you describe a high level of pain, we recommend consulting your primary care physician or a foot health specialist. It is not normal for your feet to hurt, even though you spend extended time on them at your workplace. A medical professional can determine what is causing your pain, and recommend treatments to alleviate it. The condition you describe with your third toe does sound as though the toe is crossing over toward your second toe. This is not uncommon, but it usually occurs with the second toe crossing over the first toe. You definitely want to have this condition examined by a foot health professional, as it can be caused by several things, including footwear that is not properly designed or fitted. In order to correct this, it is best to address it in the early stages. A foot health professional can help guide you not only on this condition and the pain you are experiencing, but on the best footwear for you to wear on the job and whenever you are on your feet for extended periods. For more information on proper sock and footwear selection, you can also read our article on the Integrated Approach to Selecting Padded Socks and Shoes that Fit. We hope you will consult a medical professional, and that you will soon have a resolution to your conditions.
