Robert Thompson is a nationally-recognized speaker on the topic of preventive foot health. A double-board-certified pedorthist, he holds a Master’s degree in professional studies with a concentration in hospital and health services administration from Cornell University. He also holds a double-major Bachelor’s degree in psychology and psychobiology from Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin.

Prior to joining the Institute for Preventive Foot Health (IPFH), Thompson completed a 30-year career as a teaching hospital administrator, a multi-specialty medical group practice chief executive, and a medical software-development company division vice president. He also concurrently held a non-tenured teaching appointment at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign for 14 years. Following his health care administrative career, he went on to become a nationally double-board-certified pedorthist. For five years he served as a foot healthcare consultant to the doctors practicing in his local and surrounding medical communities while simultaneously providing a special personal ministry of care for the feet of diabetic patients.

As Executive Director of IPFH since March 2008, Thompson has taken the Institute’s message of preventive foot health awareness, foot protection and foot soft tissue injury prevention and has raised it to national consciousness. While serving as the public voice of IPFH and speaking to groups and organizations across the country, he has also introduced the Institute’s Walking Partners® initiative at nine different senior-living communities located in Chicago, Cleveland, Phoenix, Seattle and Tucson. He also helped design and coordinate the IPFH National Foot Health Assessment research study, which was conducted for IPFH by NPD Group.

Thompson is a board member and research and scholarships committee member for the Pedorthic Foundation, as well as a board member of Feet for Life. He also is a Tornado Disaster Relief Ministry Team Leader and co-founder of the Career Transitions Ministry at Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover, Alabama. Thompson is a life fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a life certified medical practice executive of the American College of Medical Practice Executives, and a member of the Medical Group Management Association and the Pedorthic Footwear Association.
