On the top half of my left foot an extensive deep purple bruise appeared today. No external forces caused the issue. I am a 59 year old male with severe rheumatoid arthritis. I am a long-term steroid user, as well as other meds. Any ideas as to causal issues? Please advise.

Thank you for contacting us. IPFH does not diagnose conditions or dispense medical advice on line. It is not uncommon for people with rheumatoid arthritis to bruise easily. As you may know, RA is an autoimmune disorder and is sometimes accompanied by reduced platelet count. This particular characteristic of RA can result in greater susceptibility to bruising. The best advice we can give you is to consult your primary care physician, your rheumatologist or another medical practitioner who is familiar with your case. A medical professional can help determine if you should be treated for this condition or if it is not serious and not a threat to your health. We hope you will consult a medical professional and that your condition will soon be resolved.
