Ask The Experts

What causes extreme burning in feet like holding a lit match to my feet? Especially if exposed to dampness or cold weather.

Thank you for contacting IPFH. We do not diagnose or recommend treatments on line. The best course of action for you is to consult your primary care physician or a foot health professional. There are multiple potential causes of burning in the feet; therefore, it is important that you get a professional medical diagnosis so that you can know what can be done to treat your condition. The most common cause of burning in the feet is neuropathy, or nerve damage, so it is important for you to consult a medical professional. Other conditions that might produce the symptoms you describe are Raynaud's disease (usually very rare) and peripheral arterial disease. Under any circumstances, it's wise not to take chances and to err on the side of caution, so we hope that you will consult a medical professional at your earliest opportunity and that you will soon have a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
