My big toe nail doesn't hurt at this moment - the only time it really hurts is when someone steps on it or it touches the inside of my shoe too tight. I was wondering what the problem could be and if there's anything I can do at home to help it?

Thank you for contacting us. IPFH does not diagnose conditions or give medical advice on line. You don't mention any injury or trauma to your big toenail. Perhaps you can recall it having happened, although it is often the case that we can incur minor injuries and/or trauma to the feet that we don't think too much about in the moment. Then, later a bruise appears or something hurts and we don't know why. At any rate, it is not normal to have the kind of occasional pain you describe, so our best advice is for you to consult your primary care physician or a foot health professional. He or she can help determine if there is an injury or a condition that needs to be treated, and then recommend any appropriate treatment. We hope you will do this and that your big toe pain will soon be a thing of the past.
