Charcot Foot
Medical Considerations for Charcot Foot
Charcot foot is a very serious condition. For people with diabetes, it usually is an indication of uncontrolled blood sugar levels over many months or years and the need for more intensive management. For the best outcomes, it is imperative to diagnose and treat Charcot foot effectively before calluses and ulcers develop and more damage occurs. If Charcot foot changes are complicated by infection, surgery or drainage of abscesses or removal of permanently damaged foot tissue, then it may be necessary to do a partial or complete foot amputation.
