I burnt my foot with a fire ball on the 4th of July and I have been cleaning it and putting ointment and changing the bandages on a regular basis but I'm still having severe pain. What kind of damage could I have done to my foot with this type of injury?

Thank you for contacting us. IPFH cannot provide diagnoses or treatment recommendations on line. You don’t mention that you have seen a medical professional, so we strongly urge you to see your primary care physician at your earliest opportunity. As you may already know, burns are classified by level of severity. First-degree burns damage only the outer layer of skin. Second-degree burns damage the outer layer and the layer underneath; and third-degree burns damage or destroy the deepest layer of skin and tissues underneath. This link to the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s web site can provide you much more information. Because of damage to the skin, infection is always a risk with burns. We hope you will see your doctor as soon as you possibly can, so that you can avoid possible infection and heal more quickly and completely.
