I stubbed my big toe on Monday. On Tuesday I noticed a lump at the base of my big toe on the side of my foot. There was very little pain if any. The lump looks like a bunion however I believe that the stubbing of my toe against a heavy object was to blame. Will the lump go away or will I need to have it treated as a bunion?

Thank you for contacting IPFH. We do not diagnose or recommend treatments on line. The best course of action for you to take is to consult your primary care physician or a foot care professional (your primary care physician might provide you a reference if he or she thinks it necessary). It is important for a medical professional to determine exactly what is going on. Once that has been established, then any necessary treatment can be started. Bunions can sometimes result from injuries such as the one you describe, but it would be somewhat unusual for it to happen that quickly. The lack of pain does not necessarily mean that no injury has occurred, so we hope you will consult a medical professional, and that you will very quickly have this issue resolved.
