Ask The Experts

When I first get up from sitting or lying down, the bottom of my feet hurt, but after walking for a few minutes they are okay. What would cause this?

Thank you for contacting IPFH. We do not diagnose conditions or recommend treatments on line. You don’t mention how severe the pain is, and since it seems to go away quickly, there may be a tendency to dismiss it. But we know that pain of any type is an indication that something is amiss, and it is serious enough that you took the time to correspond with us. Therefore, we would advise you to consult your primary care physician or a foot health professional. A medical professional can help determine what is going on, and make any treatment recommendations that may be appropriate. It’s always better to be conservative when dealing with pain, and seek to determine what is causing it so as to head off a potentially more severe condition or injury down the road. You can use our Foot Pain Self-Assessment Tool to find out what might be causing the pain, but please understand that this tool is not meant to be used for diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for a consultation with a medical professional. We hope you will consult one, and that you will soon be pain free.
