Ask The Experts

I have extremely dry heels along with a breaking out; my heel has a large, deep split along the side of it, about 2" long. My dermatologist said to use Super Glue. Is that recommended and what about infection and pain?

Thank you for contacting IPFH. We do not diagnose or provide medical advice on line. We have heard about the use of superglue to assist in closing fissures on the feet. If your doctor recommended it, we would not dispute his/her advice; however, if you are uncomfortable doing this, it would be a good idea to get a second opinion. Low doses of this glue are probably not toxic, but a foot health professional such as a podiatrist can help you explore other treatment options. We hope you will consider doing this, and that you will soon be improved. Meanwhile, you can learn more about cracked heels at our page on the subject.
