    02/13 - IPFH

With much of the country experiencing record amounts of snow and ice, this message--walk like a penguin--bears repeating. Sometimes we can't avoid walking on ice, whether it's to get to a car in the parking lot or simply to make it out of the house so you can start shoveling or laying down salt. • Regular Exercise Helps You Balance Work and Family

    02/11 - IPFH

New research by the author of a Harvard Business Review blog  shows "a clear relationship between physical activity that is planned, structured, repetitive, and purpos[eful] and one's ability to manage the intersection between work and home." Study participants who exercised regularly were less likely to experience conflict between their work and home lives and were more likely to have a sense of self-efficacy--the feeling that they could take things on and get them done. IPFH urges you to get active now and reap the benefits! For maximum comfort and foot protection, choose the right footwear, properly fitted, as shown in our integrated approach.

  • Achilles Tendinitis: One More Reason to Lose Weight and Get Active

    02/6 - IPFH

Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing Achilles tendinitis and other foot and ankle problems, according to recent research. "As the obesity epidemic continues to rise, we as clinicians will face an epidemic of foot and ankle tendinopathies," the authors write. Weight loss can help lighten the load on the Achilles tendon, and appropriate stretching and strengthening exercises can help reduce pain and improve function. Those exercises are especially effective in people who are active, not sedentary. Learn more about Achilles tendinitis here.

  • More Proof It’s Never Too Late to Get Active and Healthy

    02/4 - IPFH

Staying active or starting a regular physical activity program in your 60s and beyond is the key to healthy, active aging, according to a recent study. Researchers examined the effects of regular exercise in close to 3500 men and women with an average age of 64. Over eight years of followup, 19.3% of the sample met the criteria for healthy aging.  Becoming active or remaining active (moderate or vigorous activity at least once a week) was associated with healthy aging in comparison with remaining inactive over follow-up. IPFH agrees that age is not a barrier to physical activity. No matter what activity you choose, wear the right clothing and properly fitted footwear for maximum comfort and protection.
